In the newest preview build I've finally replaced the heads and improved the bodies of the characters. Effectively, there won't be any story line related stuff in terms of getting captured (at least most likely not, though I'd like to put player through a tribe that just alternates between tribe members and everyone uses the player for their own thing), but they're "lose conditions" as such, you'll get dragged back to the ship by your crew afterwards, or tossed to some "safe" location to continue from ^^ Edit: Whoop!
